Congratulations

Congratulations to Sempai Lauren Grant-Shodan, Dominique Ouellette-1 kyu, and Zachary Harvey-9 kyu.  All of these students performed and represented the dojo very well at the Veazie Tournament last weekend.

Open House - New Location

Maine Traditional Karate and Fitness will be hosting an Open House on November 17th from 12 to 5 p.m. 

LOCATION: Route 2 Hermon. Morita’s School Of Dance Studio

*Everyone is invited!

Come see ongoing demonstrations and ask questions; free pizza & beverages will be provided.  Karate deals and gym memberships will be given away all day.

Karate involves learning self-confidence, self-discipline, and builds self-esteem . Our style also incorporates Japanese customs, history, and language in our class curriculum. We are looking forward to having you as a student in our dojo as it takes a special person to be a karate student, one who walks the path. It takes a person with high morals and respect for self and others, to be one of these special people.

Hermon Rec Class Completion

Hermon Rec Classes completed their 6th week of training last night.  Amazing how fast 6 weeks goes by.  Both classes did a great job!  
They were able to get just a small taste of what karate is all about.  Stances, kicks, punches, self defense, speed drills, kata and kobudo.  
Thank you to all the parents and family members that made the time commitment so that your kids could train with us.

Kobudo Camp 2012

Sensei Steve and Sensei Stan Leach (from the Orland Dojo) recently returned from Kobudo Camp 2012.  The camp was hosted by Hanshi John Shipes in Athens, Texas.  Students traveled from many different locations to take part in this training.  Special thanks to Hanshi Shipes for this training.

Orrington Spring Recreation Class

Brewer Student Health Fair

Maine Traditional Karate was part of the Brewer High School Student Health Fair on Thursday.  The fair is presented by the Brewer High School Student Health Advisory Board and allows local organizations to present different health topics to the students.  Thanks to Brewer High School and the Student Health Advisory Board for allowing us to participate.

Tuite Seminar

Students from Orrington and Orland gathered on February 25th for a Tuite Seminar hosted by Sensei Steve Apsega and Sensei Stan Leach.  The 6-hour seminar focused on tuite warmups, the basics of joint locking, flow drills and kyu rank tuite sets.

Breathing to Relax Class



New Class starting on the first Friday of every month at 6:45 p.m.  



Held at Maine Traditional Karate & Fitness, the one hour class will consist of a brief description of how breathing works followed by instruction on proper breathing techniques. Then the techniques are practiced in two sitting sessions followed by savasana, a yoga posture in which you lie still on your back focusing on each body part as you breath to end the class


The cost is $10 per class.  Please bring warm clothing and a cushion.  For more information or to register, please contact Joe Isgro at 944-5711 or 570-5425.

Brewer Winterfest









Maine Traditional Karate & Fitness will be demonstrating some cool stuff at the Brewer Auditorium this Saturday, Feb. 18th, at 10:00 a.m.  Make sure you stop by our table and make some cool Japanese kanji bookmarks also and see the Winter special we are offering to join us.

Stick Fighting Seminar

Thank you Sempai Lou for teaching the Stick Fighting Seminar this past weekend.  Sempai Lou has been studying Kukishin Ryu recently.  Kukishin Ryu is a Japanese martial art allegedly founded in the 14th century CE by Kuki Yakushimauru Ryushin.

Congratulations to all who tested this weekend at Athens Karate School in Texas.  A number of instructors were certified in Karate, Kobudo and Tuite.  Sensei Stan and Sensei Steve were among those who tested and received Full Instructor Certification.

Yoga Classes start tonight!



Start the new year out right with yoga taught by Deb Harmon!  Classes start tonight at 5:30 at Maine Traditional Karate and Fitness and run for an hour.  The cost is only $10 per class and drop-ins are welcome. Deb is a certified sport yoga instructor through NESTA and has training in martial arts, as well as a medical background.  Hope to see you there!
